Over the last few weeks we have been looking at biodiversity. Biodiversity is all the different kinds of life you’ll find in one area – the variety of animals, plants, fungi, and even microorganisms like bacteria that make up our natural world.

Unfortunately we have been destroying the habitats where many creatures live. We have started to look around our school grounds at the different habitats that provide a place for creatures to live. Yesterday we started making some bee hotels which we are going to place around the school. the small holes in the canes and the gaps between the canes will hopefully provide shelter for all manner of insects. We need to provide homes for insects partly because so many other creatures rely on insects as food or to pollinate plants which become their food.

The RSPB website gives many ways in which you can help encourage wildlife and increase biodiversity in your garden (other websites are available!)
