If you have been following the news on our Eco-School blog you will know that we have acquired a Ridan composter to compost the food waste from the school dinners. You can see it in action here:

Our aims are to:

  • turn any food waste produced in school into good compost that we can use around school
  • to highlight food waste in school and to reduce the amount we waste
  • to learn about where all our food comes from and to understand better the “real cost” of our food.

We are looking for some parents and children who would be prepared to help feed our Ridan composter each day after school. It only takes about 10 minutes to collect the food waste, add it to the composter along with some wood chip, to turn the handle and then to empty the new compost into the maturing container.

If you would like to know more about what is involved and to possibly be involved please contact Mr Magnall via the contact page on this blog.
